If you are excited to see Kim, she will make you wait- just a little longer, because she has to make sure the car is parked just right and the window shades are right in place. She is meticulous like that. And she probably took just a minute longer to style her hair to make it perfectly straight and flowing around her shining face -as she always does. Then she appears with her bright smile to greet you with a warm hug.
If you invite her to your gatherings, don’t worry about having to entertain her because by the time she leaves, your friends are going to be her friends. She is not afraid to extend her time, attention, and soul to listen to others and make them feel important- like a true friend. And it does not matter where they are from, what they look like, or what religion they believe in. She will conquer it all.
And the food, oh, the food, she would try anything. She is brave like that. But I really don’t know where she keeps it. She has not gained a pound since I met her 30 years ago.
Be careful what you say in front of her. Because just when you are not paying attention, a book and a sweet note will be arriving in the mail telling you she is thinking of you and thought the book or the resource might be of help.
All kidding aside, Kim is a precious, rare human being in this time of nanosecond attention where we pulled in a hundred directions at the same time. She is an oasis of peace and balance that replenishes the souls of everyone that comes in her path. She is a true, loyal friend.
